Track of the Day: Blood Stain Child – ‘Stargazer’

With the return of The X-Files to our screens after an eternity, it seems like an appropriate time for a song explicitly inspired by the show, right?

‘Stargazer’ is a bloody awesome track, and one of the ones I usually use to get people into this band. Blood Stain Child are a melodic death metal band from Japan, with a massive crossover influence from trance music and J-pop, and their music is often as easy to jump and dance to as it is to headbang and mosh to. ‘Stargazer’ is one of the few tracks by the band which doesn’t have any harsh vocals by bassist Ryo, so it’s a bit more palatable for non-metalheads than some of their other work. The lyrics, by then-vocalist Sophia, are very much X-Files themed – I mean, the chorus ends with the line “I want to believe”, for god’s sake – and should bring a smile to the face of any fan of the show.

Essentially, if you genuinely like the sound of Babymetal, beyond the novelty aspect of the band, these guys did it first. They’ve been honing their blend of electro/metal influences for over a decade now, and ‘Stargazer’ proves that they’re one of the best in the world at it. It’s poppy, upbeat, danceable and yet still heavy with a sweet solo, so if you’re looking for more bands with a similar sound to Babymetal, or you like bands like Crossfaith who also play electronic-metal fusion, give these guys and girls a look because they’re well worth it.
