We quietly sort of thought that Thor: Ragnarok would be a movie based on the Siege storyline from the Marvel Comics. That would involve dumping Asgard into a field in the American Midwest with all sorts of fighting. Everyone is worried about another interstellar threat and Thor is at the head of it? Well, it looks like that’s not going to happen in the next Thor movie. Something even better is!
Joblo.com has reported that Thor: Ragnarok is going to use elements of the Hulk storyline ‘Planet Hulk’. They didn’t reveal how Thor gets there, but apparently our favourite hammer-wielder will find himself on a strange planet, fighting in Gladiatorial games run by Jeff Goldblum.
According to the Joblo article, “The film will definitely have the Planet Hulk element in it, operating as a kind of mash-up with the Ragnarok story. How Thor ends up on the planet in question is unclear, but he will definitely be involved in some gladiatorial games run by none other than Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster”.
Apparently, both Hulk and Thor are getting slight makeovers. Hulk will be rocking some one-sided shoulder armour (the design of which comes from the 2006 comic) and Thor will have a shaved head – at least for a while.
In the comic of Thor: Ragnarok, Thor had to find an ultimate weapon and reset the entire universe. In Planet Hulk, the green machine comes back to earth with a vengeance after being blasted into space to keep humans safe from him. If the next Thor movie is going to be a mashup of some of that, it can only be a good thing. Probably.
