Logan’s Run Remake In Development At Warner Bros

In an open season of remakes,  the classic Logan’s Run is one of those in the pre-production stages. The re-imagining of the 1970’s tale has been in production hell for quite awhile but with a screenplay, producers and now a script-writer  in play, the chance of success has been improved.  This is especially positive as Warner Bros are seeking a script.

Ryan Condal (Colony) joins a team comprising Simon Kinberg (X-Men Apocalypse) and Arrow/Flash duo Joel Silver and Greg Berlanti. This film has come through many producers, screenwriters and directors including, as reported by Comicbook.com, Bryan Singer (X-menChristopher McQuarrie, Joseph Kosinski, Carl Erik Rinsch, Alex Garland (Ex Machina), Nicolas Winding Refn, and Ken Levine. Screenrant reported back in April that Ryan Gosling had dropped out but the focus was on finding a female lead and a scriptwriter.

The film is said to be a remake of the 1967  book by George Clayton rather than the film. The story sees citizens of a futuristic earth: year 2116 gaining the benefits of an advanced world only to be executed at the age of 21 (it was 30 in the 1973 film). This is a dystopian world where this kind of ageist thinking is necessary to keep populations down and therefore have resources continue to be available. When it is a person’s time to die, via religious cult-like ceremony, someone with a job title of Sandman comes to find you. The central character of the novel, Logan-55, is one such sandman. As you’d expect, much like with Blade Runner and other tales of this nature, the once loyal Logan changes his tune and finds himself running from the law.
