Dolph Lundgren, old school action star of Rocky IV, Masters of the Universe (that’s right, we’re talking He-Man) and lesser-known 1989 Marvel film The Punisher, has recently expressed an interest in joining the Marvel world again. In an interview with Nerdist, Lundgren expressed interest in mutant antihero Cable, noting the physical resemblance between himself and the character.
Such a casting seems fairly ideal, as Lundgren is part of the older Steven Segal/Sylvester Stallone generation suited to the grizzled mutant. Also, alongside talking the talk with his various action roles, he substantially talks the talk. I can’t think of a better actor for Cable than a man so intimidating, a group of burglars once abandoned their attempted looting of his house when they saw photos and realised whose house they were in.
Interestingly, when Deadpool revealed in its blatantly meta post-credits scene that Cable was slated to appear in the sequel, Lundgren‘s name is listed alongside other actors as a potential winning candidate for the role.
