In an update on the official site for the play, it’s been confirmed that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be the eighth story in the actual Harry Potter series, set after the ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The last we’d seen Harry, he was at platform nine and three-quarters waving off his two eldest children, James Sirius and Albus Severus as they made the journey to Hogwarts. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will follow directly on from those events, set 19 years after the main series ends, for the first time since the epilogue of Deathly Hallows.

The synopsis is as follows:

“It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

The play will be split into two parts so audience members can choose to see the first and second showing as a matinee and evening show in the same day, or save the second part for the following night.

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child is being  brought to life by playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany, working in collaboration with JK Rowling. The play will contain a cast of 30 that has yet to be announced, and will receive its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in the summer of 2016.
