Classic Tomb Raider fans, including myself, were flabbergasted when Crystal Dynamics, Aspyr and Saber Interactive teamed up to bring the first 3 classic Tomb Raider titles to current generation consoles back in February.
Not only did they bring the old Core Design games to a new era, they put a new lick of paint to the classic look, with new textures, character models, lighting, and particle effects you could switch to with a click of a button. Aspyr dug into the archives and also brought the once PC only additional levels from the PC gold editions from the 90’s to each title. This made the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered the definitive way to play these once groundbreaking titles.
Now, the developers have recently surprised fans with the confirmation of the other Core trilogy of Tomb Raider games will be getting the revamped treatment.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered will include
- Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation
- Tomb Raider: Chronicles
- Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness
We do know there will be quality of life improvement, classic & modern control options, photo mode, updated models & textures, trophy & achievements, and we know The Last Revelation will come with the once PC exclusive The Times Level.
I will be interested to see if The Angel of Darkness will get some additional levels, areas, extended story or even some gameplay fixes will be implemented to flesh out the title. Known for its turbulent development, The Angel of Darkness could really benefit from some reworked mechanics and fixed gameplay.
We are sure to get more information in the coming months. Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered will release on PlayStation 4 & 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S|X and PC on February 14th (Ms. Croft’s birthday).
