YesFlix/Noflix: Daredevil Or The Vampire Diaries?

So in this week’s Yesflix/Noflix we are going to take a look at some action series! I will be looking at how the characters are represented in terms of personality and by myth (what that character is supposed to be). There were many shows I could have chosen from the selection on Netflix, but I simply chose my favourite current program and one I have absolutely hated since day one. So, without further ado, let’s dive into some action!

Yesflix – Daredevil

DareDevil
Let’s jump straight into the best action currently available on Netflix, which is Daredevil! Now, I’ll fully admit that I never really liked the comics of Daredevil back in the day. Then they released possibly the worst movie ever starring Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell, which deepened my dislike for the franchise. So you could understand my hesitation about watching this show. However, with Netflix’s fantastic adaption, one episode in and I was hooked. The action scene are incredibly well done and actually seem quite fresh in terms of the technique you see on-screen these days. It also helps that the lead character is easy on the eyes (pun intended). Plus we have an actress that I love from True Blood (Deborah Ann Woll) who plays Karen Page. I was hoping that she would return in something very soon and I am glad she has, as she bring a lot of charm to the show.
Now, as I mentioned above, I am reviewing the action and characters. So the reason this show wins the title is due to the fact that it has everything! There’s non-stop action and, plot-wise, something is happening in every single episode. No episode is a waste. The action is just ludicrous; there are so many styles of fighting mixed in together, not to mention the fact that the title character, Matt Murdock, is blind and uses his heightened senses to battle and move around the place. It’s not just his fighting style that is awesome, it’s also the way he uses the environment around him as a weapon too. I won’t delve into that too much, though, as obviously I don’t want to say too much or spoil anything especially as it’s new and a lot of people haven’t watched it yet.
Finally the characters! There are only three main characters which are Matt, Karen and Foggy. They all work in a little start-up law firm. Each character brings something unique to the table. Matt is the kind and compassionate type, Foggy is the more stern and awkward type and Karen is the incredibly strong-headed but very gentle and caring type. But together they all come together to create a nice little team that so far has gelled very well together. So that, folks, is this week’s Yesflix!

Noflix – The Vampire Diaries

Vampire
This show does my head in. Overall, there is nothing in this show for me. Now, I love vampires but this show just took them and made them whiny little love birds and it’s just sickening. When I think of vampires I think of books and movies such as Dracula or Interview With A Vampire. You know, actual vampires!
The first major thing that annoys me is the overly good-looking plastic characters that run the show. The characters don’t have much depth at all. It’s more about their personal life problems, usually over another plastic girl or guy that they have some stupid long history with. Admittedly, I only watched a season, but to be honest it really was all I could bear to watch. I had to push myself to get that far. The funny thing is my sister loves it and she was the one to suggest it to me. We usually have the same taste in shows but we certainly don’t regarding The Vampire Diaries.
Finally, the action is pretty standard. Nothing epic. I find they tend to talk and pout more than actually take action and then when someone actually does something, everyone can’t believe it. I mean, vampires are supposed to be ripping you apart and draining you completely unless they want you as part of their movement. Not giving you little vampire hickies!
