First Glimpse At Gran Turismo Movie Revealed. GT7 Announced For PS VR2
Sony had their press conference at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES). With a number of announcements from across Sony’s different divisions and partnerships, we got some updates on the Gran Turismo brand.
We got an first look at the upcoming movie adaption, which is being directed by Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium). The plot will follow a young GT gamer, who goes from playing the game to becoming an actual racing driver. It will star Archie Madekwe as the young driver, David Harbour, Darren Barnet, Thomas Kretschmann, Djimon Hounsou, and Orlando Bloom.
Filming and Release
Filming for the movie began in November 2022, with principle photography completing earlier this week.
Thanks to Sony’s VENICE camera technology, Blomkamp was able to recreate all the iconic angles of the game. With the VENICE Rialto camera sensor extension technology, it allowed filming in small spaces, where conventional cameras could not fit. This setup was used in the likes of Top Gun Maverick, as the in-flight cockpit shots used the VENICE and Rialto system.
Gran Turismo is one of 10+ PlayStation IPs being made for TV or cinema. Gran Turismo is set to release in cinemas on August 11th, 2023.
Filming is now underway on #GranTurismoMovie – based on the inspiring true story of a Gran Turismo player, Jann Mardenborough, who won a series of gaming competitions leading him to become an actual professional racecar driver. 🎬🏎 pic.twitter.com/gV13gEg2G5— Sony Pictures (@SonyPictures) November 12, 2022
