Epic Rap Battles of History, shortened to ERB was created by Peter Shukoff and Lloyd Ahlquist ( Nice Peter and EpicLLOYD) in 2011.
The series shows famous historical and pop culture characters in the throws of battling it out through rap. Through the series and having gained such popularity it has featured many internet faces including George Watsky (Really fast rap guy) PewDiePie, Lisa Donovan, Snoop Dog and former MadTV comedians Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele.
What I find most enjoyable about these guys is their guts to dis famous personalities but keep it at a certain level where they are still respected. The best example of this would have to be their Lance Armstrong and Babe Ruth rap – each character in this rap is not afraid to point out their flaws including Lance’s drug scandal but at the same time you feel that the comedians respect the characters that they portray in the video, even if they are ripping them apart!
The music behind the raps and the rhythm that they maintain is incredibly catchy and their impersonations are maintained throughout. Their choice in characters is not always ones you would expect but they work, example, Genghis Khan and The Easter Bunny. Classic!
It is hard to not be impressed by these guys and their skills to bring historical or knowledge of some fictional characters into a new unique form of entertainment.
