Have they inadvertently revealed the Star Trek 2 villain
Star Trek 2 is one of those strange movies that is so tightly underwraps we know practically nothing about it, despite the fact it’s filming is complete and it’s in post production. We know Benedict Cumberbatch is playing the villain but who had no idea who that was until now. However J.J. Abrams is famous for misdirection.
At a press even for Dredd, Karl Urban is said to have let slip that Cumberbatch is playing Gary Mitchell. Kirks friend from Academy days and Evil esper with amazing mental powers granted to him by an unfortunate encounter with the galactic barrier.
Even though we don’t have any solid facts there have been some hints that make Gary Mitchell probable, in the official IDW Star Trek comics Gary Mitchell has featured in an arc retelling “Where No Man Has Gone Before” and the fact they have vigorously denied that Cumberbatch will be playing Khan all lend credence to the Mitchell theory.
