The @rcade officially declares today St. Snakes day – a day when we pay hommage to our reptilian friends and look at all they have given us! From their movie roles to terrifying us in video games, we take a look at some of the best known snakes in the entertainment business and we even mention some unlikely candidates who just weren’t able to cut it as King/Queen Snake.

Video Game Snake Legend

Resident Evil 1 – Snake Boss

The first of our reptilian legends, this snake was probably one of the most terrifying enemies in the Resident Evil series. After becoming infected with the T-virus this Bio-Organic Weapon grew to a colossal scale and when it unhinged it’s jaw to swallow its human victims whole it was given the name ‘Yawn’. Almost killing Rebecca and Richard, the snake soon sets its beady eyes on Jill and Chris stalking them through the mansion. With a bite that can kill faster than any other known venomous snake and its fierce size this is one predator we wish to never encounter! (Thankfully we won’t though because Chris and Jill finally killed it in the library… with the candlestick… o.0 Resident Evil Cluedo jokes)

(Even the music is creepy)

Movie Snake Legend

Anaconda – err… the Anaconda

What have Jennifer Lopez and a movie about the largest snake in the world got in common? Well they both look fake and sound terrible! The movie had the tagline ‘When you can’t breathe, you can’t scream’, and it’s pretty apt because this movie is so terrible that we actually felt the oxygen being sucked out of the room by a vacuum of crappiness!
The movie was a box office success (probably J-Lo’s only success on the big screen thus making this movie worse for encouraging her to make more movies), a documentary team headed by Lopez are tracking down a long lost tribe when their guide turns on them and forces them to track the largest Anaconda known to exist… fun and trouble soon follow!

Internet Meme Snake Legend

Badger Song – Snaaaaake

Watch this video at your own peril as we cannot be held responsible for it getting stuck in your head all day! One of the first and most viral videos to run amok on the internet the Badger Song still occasionally appears to infect and coerce the mind of its unaware YouTube viewer. What would happen if we tried to breed a badger with a snake and dare we say it a mushroom?

Mushnakadger?
Snadgeroom?
Badroomake?

(Is it just us or do they all sound like Pokémon?)

Who didn’t make the cut: World’s longest snake found dead

Cartoon Snake Legend

The Animals of Farthing Wood – Adder

From one of the most intelligent and beautifully animated children’s cartoons in the early 90’s, we’ve picked Adder out as probably the greatest cartoon snake. Based on the books by Colin Dann, the series followed woodland creatures including Fox, Vixen, Owl, Toad and Adder as they fled their home now in ruin after a human settlement in search of White Deer Park, a reserve. Adder is seen as the outcast or pariah in the group, a dangerous and terrifying creature, something which she even prides herself on but behind it all and despite her actions she only has the best intentions to heart. Adder is different to the other snakes we often see on TV, while superficially she comes across as bad; she has saved her fellow animal refugees countless times and has a heart that is left broken when she loses her mate.
