EwTube – Perfect Parodies

The art of the parody is one that has a rare quality – it appeals to fans and haters of the parodied item alike, as well as everyone in between. This week on EwTube, the @rcade brings you some of the funniest and wackiest musical parodies of big name movies to be found on the internet.

Shatner of The Mount

We’ll start off with the @rcade’s favourite – a mashup of William Shatner saying some pretty weird things about mountain climbing, set to original music by a group called Fall on Your Sword.

Not only is the music incredibly catchy, but Shatner’s “lyrics” make us laugh every time with such gems as “he wants to make love… to the mountain”. As a result this is a video we’ve found ourselves watching time and time again.

For those of you interested in knowing the story behind Captain Kirk’s passionate affair with the mountain, this video may shed some light – during the filming of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier at El Capitan Mountain in the United States, William Shatner took a moment to ponder on what makes people climb.

Gandalf Goes to the World Cup

From Norwegian parody duo PistolShrimps comes this merging of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the World Cup 2010’s infamous vuvuzela horns – you might know them better as the BBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ sound that formed the backdrop to every game in South Africa this summer. Despite many people’s hatred of the horn, this parody is both expertly made and side-splittingly funny, and well worth a minute and a half of your time.

We also have to give a shout out to the creator of the original song used in the video – it’s Taking the Hobbits to Isengard by Erwin “Tron” Beekveld.

Captain Jack Sparrow Has a Jar of Dirt

While it might not have the production quality of the previous two, NeonHurricane’s “I’ve Got a Jar of Dirt” Pirates of the Caribbean parody is addictive with its sheer childish humour. This is one song that will be stuck in your head for days to come.

Jaws Theme Song with Lyrics

Some of you might already have seen the work of Andrew Goldenberd, aka Goldentusk, a YouTube user who dedicates much of his time to writing and performing amusing lyrics to accompany famous movie theme tunes. This parody of Jaws gives the shark a voice (and a creepy human mouth that made us want to laugh and cry at the same time).

The Joker Meets Charlie the Unicorn

Hopefully many of you will already have been exposed to the wondrous humour that is Jason Steele’s Charlie the Unicorn. If not, don’t worry – amanemanga’s parody of The Dark Knight’s Joker using a song from the famous internet cartoon should be equally nonsensical and hilarious to Charlie fans and non-fans alike.
