Throw on a snapback cap and a plaid shirt because we’re off to Warped Tour with State Champs for today’s Track of the Day!
I’ve never considered myself a big fan of the modern style of pop-punk. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a massive pop-punk fan, and to this day still love ‘classic’ bands like New Found Glory, Zebrahead, Blink-182, and essentially any band that appeared on a Tony Hawk soundtrack. But something about the new school doesn’t appeal to me, and I can barely stand listening to Neck Deep, Man Overboard, A Day To Remember and the like.
State Champs are the exception, though, because they remember what makes pop-punk so fun: the pop. ‘Elevated’ is a stupidly catchy song, with an intro that’s made to get a crowd jumping in unison with a complete ear-worm of a chorus. It shows a band unafraid to take elements of the older bands while still mixing it with the sound created by their contemporaries, which turns into something fresh and new yet nostalgic at the same time. There’s also an absolutely fantastic acoustic version available, and I seriously recommend you check these guys out whether you’re a New Found Glory lover or a Four Year Strong fan.
