Ultra Beasts, New Pokémon & More Revealed in Sun and Moon Trailers

With the release of a new English and Japanese trailer for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Game Freak are stepping up their marketing as we near the 2 month mark for the game’s release.

Firstly, they revealed a number of brand new Pokémon:

Type: Null

This brand new Normal type Pokémon is indeed named “Type: Null” and is the Synthetic Pokémon. With a Normal typing, and a Battle Armour ability which prevents critical hits Type: Null is a Pokémon with various body parts inspired by mythical creatures. The main site reveals that

“To complete a certain mission, there was need of a Pokémon powerful enough to rival those Pokémon often spoken of in mythology”.

Jangmo-o is a pure dragon type Pokémon and a likely candidate to become the pseudo legendary of the Alola region. (A pseudo legendary is a non legendary Pokémon that has base stats of 600 making it as strong as a legendary Pokémon. Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross, Salamence, Garchomp, Hydreigon and Goodra are all the previous pseudo legendaries).

With a pure dragon typing and the abilities Bulletproof (Which makes it immune to all ball and bomb moves ie. Shadow Ball,  Seed Bomb) or Soundproof (Which makes it immune to all noise based moves (Supersonic, Sing, Boomburst).

“Because Jangmo-o uses the scales on its head for both offense and defense, it never turns its back to its enemies. Many Trainers see this behavior and take it as proof that Jangmo-o is a valiant Pokémon.”

Alolan Rattata & Raticate

Those familiar with Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue may vaguely recognise this duo. However the tropical Alola region’s environment caused Rattata to move into the cities to source food and their rivalry with the Yungoos of the region caused them to develop an additional dark typing.

Ultra Beasts

A brand new species of creatures is set to debut in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. These creatures are known only as Ultra beasts and are not Pokémon. The first Ultra Beast revealed in the trailer is known by the codename UB-01.

“In the Alola region, rumors are flying about mysterious creatures known as Ultra Beasts. Ultra Beasts possess mighty powers and could pose a threat to humans and Pokémon, so they are feared.

According to rumor, multiple Ultra Beasts exist, each of them called by a code name.

Speculation is already rife that this particular UB-01 Ultra Beast may have ties to the previously revealed ‘mysterious’ character Lillie who acts as the professor’s assistant. Especially as the official site reveals:

While evidence of something like a survival instinct can be observed in UB-01, no one knows whether it has a will of its own or any emotions. It’s said that, for some reason, its movements resemble those of a young girl“.

The Aether Foundation

The new trailers also revealed a brand new organisation that operate on the artificial island: Aether Paradise at the centre of the Alola region.

Creating a safe haven for Pokémon that have found themselves on the wrong side of the dastardly Team Skull, The Aether Foundation promote peace and harmony and are also doing some research on the Mysterious Ultra Beasts.

Team Skull’s Enforcer

Bearing a striking resemblance in both hair and eye colour to Lusamine of The Aether Foundation and Lillie, Professor Kukui’s assistant, Gladion is known as Team Skull’s Enforcer.

With Type: Null as his signature Pokémon, Gladion places a high value on being strong in Pokémon battles.

We’re sure Gladion will put up quite a challenge in battle when Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are released.
