It’s official, in less than a month since it’s release on May 24th, Overwatch has amassed a playerbase of over 10 million players! This number accounts for all platforms including PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The game had reportedly reached the 7 million mark within it’s first week. In the tweet below, Blizzard shows their gratitude towards players for helping achieve such a milestone.
Ten million Overwatch agents activated and counting! Thank you for daring to see the world for what it could be. 💛 pic.twitter.com/5nCe4e32XT

Overwatch has more or less dominated every conversation in the gaming sphere recently, but to put this achievement in context; Blizzard’s first goliath game, World Of Warcraft only hit 10 million subscribers in 2014 with the release of Warlords of Draenor. Likewise, League of Legends reported having 12 million active accounts in 2012, 3 years after it’s release.
So there we have it, Overwatch managed to reach over 10 million players in the space of a few weeks. It’s also almost certain that half of those players are playing either Genji or Hanzo. With such a great start, It’s hard to tell where the success story will end, especially given that the game still doesn’t have a competitive ranked mode yet. Our best guess, we’ll stop playing when killing a Bastion who’s been camping stops being so goddamn satisfying!
