What is he?
Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Vision is an android created by the combined efforts of Tony Stark, Bruce Banner Ultron and Thor. Ultron, in an attempt to create the perfect body for himself, combined the Vibranium he took from Wakanda and the mind stone. Stark and Banner then attempted to incorporate Jarvis’ AI into the mix and with his godly touch, Thor’s lightning gave birth to the MCU Vision played by Paul Bettany.
After his debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where at the very end Cap offered him a spot on his new team of Avengers. Vision is set to make his comeback in Captain American: Civil War where he has sided with #TeamIronMan as the MCU heroes come to blows.
In the comic universe, Vision made his first appearance way back in 1968 in The Avengers #57. He was created solely by Ultron to destroy Hank Pym (Ultron’s creator). however after realising his true origins, Vision sides with the Avengers in their efforts to take down Ultron.
What Are His Powers?
The Vision has one of the most diverse power-sets in the MCU to date. His primary power is his ability to alter his density. This allows him to phase through objects with ease, or increase his density so he remains firmly in place.
He is also capable of firing optic blasts from the mind stone, as we saw in the climactic final assault on Ultron.
Why is he #TeamIronMan in Civil War?
It’s important to remember, that we witnessed Vision’s birth in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He is still learning to live in the world, and coming to terms with his purpose. The Russos, have promised that his arc in Civil War will deal with him coming to terms with his own limitations.
The latest Civil War trailer also revealed that he find himself on the receiving end of an angry Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) spell, which sees Vision powerless as he falls to his knees.
As some may already know, Scarlet Witch and Vision enjoyed a passionate relationship in their comic history, so to see them come to blows like this, lets hope they can eventually put their difference aside, kiss, and make up. He’s going to need someone by his side, fighting his corner when Thanos comes looking for his precious infinity stone.
