Who Is Iron Man?

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) is the CEO of Stark Industries, the world leading expert of weapon  creation & distribution. During a kidnap attempt in Afghanistan,Stark suffers a serious injury, resulting in shrapnel getting lodged in his chest. Trapped and imprisoned, his captors, pawns of terrorist organisation the Ten Rings force Stark to make a specialised weapon for them. Stark however creates a suit of armour instead, that he uses to escape from his captors. Iron Man is born.

Since his Iron Man debut, Stark has gone from strength to strength. Defending the world from some of its greatest threats. Taking out terrorists, and stopping an alien invasion, Stark has proven himself to be more than just a playboy, billionaire philanthropist.

What About The Comics?

Tony StarkIron Man’s comic history dates back as far as 1963 with his first appearance being in Tales of Suspense #39. As one of the original founding members of the Avengers alongside, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and Wasp. Formed with the aim of combing their forces to take on the foes that no single hero could take on alone.

Iron Man’s most recent comic series Invincible Iron-Man sees a refreshed and energetic Stark who has developed a suit that can adjust itself to his needs. Going head to head with the magic wielding Madame Masque as well as acquainting himself with Mary Jane Watson (of Spider-Man fame) the all-new, all-different Iron Man is definitely taking a step in the right direction.

What Powers Does Iron Man Have?

Stark does not necessarily have any super-powers. His strengths come from his enhanced suits of armour.

Equipped with a magnetic reactor core which stops the shrapnel from reaching his heart, the Iron Man suit packs quite the fire power. Much lighter on artillery when compared to War Machine, Stark’s armour can fire repulsor beams from his palms, rockets from his wrists and also gives him the ability to fly.

Stark operates his suit with the aid of his internal A.I: Jarvis ( Friday in Age of Ultron).

Iron Man’s Role In Civil War?

As the leader of #TeamIronMan, Stark will lead a team of heroes that are pro Superhero registration. In the wake of a amassing collateral damage world-wide, and after seeing his friends dead in a vision from Scarlet Witch in Age of Ultron, it’s clear Stark is thinking of the safety of his friends in his justifications to side with the government.

We’ve seen some serious blows been dealt between Cap and  Stark in the most recent trailer, so we’re certain this will be one intense movie. Just how far will the Russo brothers go to shake up the MCU?

With the addition of Spider-Man to the Civil War movie, will we see Stark taking on a mentor role for the younger hero?

Captain America: Civil War lands in cinemas April 29.
