Who Is War Machine?

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, James Rhodes (Terrence Howard / Don Cheadle) first appeared in Iron Man 1. Acting as a form of liaison between the military and Stark industries, the highly skilled Air Force pilot eventually dons a suit of armour similar to Iron Man’s, fitted with some ridiculous fire power by Hammer Industries.

In Iron Man 3, Rhodey temporarily suits up in the Iron Patriot armour, (originally worn by Norman Osborne in the comics). This suit of armour took Rhodey out of his standard grey and silver tone suit and into a more colourful Red, Blue and White patriotic suit, equipped with equally as much fire power as his War Machine armour.

War MachineRhodes has reverted back to his War Machine role since then however, appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron where he was offered a spot on Cap’s new Avenger’s line up, and the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.

In the comics, James Rhodes first appeared in 1979 in Iron Man #118. In more recent years, he has been dating his fellow Air Force pilot turned superhero Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel).

What Are His Powers?

Rhodey heavily relies on his tech when he is beating on bad guys. Stemming from a military background, Rhodes is able to remain cool, calm and collected when faced with difficult decisions. Equipped with a multitude of various guns, and rockets, the War Machine suit in comparison to the Iron Man suit which relies more on high intensity repulsor beams.

The War Machine suit also allows Rhodey to fly, while granting enhanced strength and durability.

Why is he #TeamIronMan in Civil War?

Rhodey has been friends with Stark for a very long time, and being from a military background, he is very much on the pro-government side of this war.

We do however see Rhodes taking a pretty big hit in the Civil War trailers, so we can only hope that he pulls through, at least long enough for him to get properly acquainted with Carol Danvers once she finally makes her MCU debut.
