Hey guys, and welcome to this week’s Comicphiles, your weekly dose of what’s hot, and what’s not in the land of comics. We’ll be venturing between Dark Circle Comics, Image and Marvel for this week’s trio of The shield Snowfall For Hire, enjoy!

Snowfall #1

The Shield Snowfall For Hire

Snowfall, fresh from Image Comics and created by Joe Harris and Martin Morazzo, takes place in the year 2045. Earth’s climate has crashed and despite the efforts to stabilise it, the failed attempts have let to the United states being partitioned into various resettlement zones, under the banner of the Cooperative States of America. (CSA)

This comic, set in its dystopian future was very much a wildcard pick for me. The premise seems to revolve around this entanglement of corporate and social life. A future where businesses see profits to be made in this climatic disaster that humanity has caused. A world that has not seen snowfall for a very long time, and that relies on manufactured weather to create some form of semblance to life before the crash.

This series could very easily veer off in a number of directions. The introduction hints to a sleeping princess, which could give this comic somewhat of a more magical element if it is to be taken literally. But with what we were shown, business greed, and the control of weather seem to be key plot points which were founded in the series’ debut issue.

Will I Continue Reading? My Interest has been piqued, I’ll hang around for a few more issues!

Power Man and Iron Fist #1

The Shield Snowfall for hire

Luke Cage and Danny Rand are back together….much to Cage’s denial. In this debut issue, ex office manager for the Heroes for Hire (and convicted Killer) Jeannie Royce has been released from prison, and Rand and Cage are waiting to welcome her back to the world.

The issue’s plot revolves around Iron Fist & Power Man suiting up once again to reclaim a family heirloom for Royce from the clutches of Tombstone (Lonnie Lincoln). The banter between Rand and Cage is refreshing and very much on point in this issue. The family dynamics between Jessica Jones and Cage, as well as the bromance of Power Man and Iron Fist give the series a charming quality.

As with Snowfall, the direction this series could end up going are unknown. Will we see the Heroes for Hire eventually reformed? A surprise character appearance at the end of the issue however may spell some trouble for our charming duo.

Will I Continue Reading? These bros are back with a bang! I’m sold!

The Shield #1

The final comic for our trio this week comes from Dark Circle Comics, written by Adam Christopher and Chuck Wendig with art by Drew Johnson. The Shield tells of the adventures of Victoria Adams, a strong heroine who throughout the first issue finds herself in some very sticky situations, in two different periods of time. Victoria Adams is The Shield, and daughter of the revolution.

The first issue cuts between a contemporary story and a story from the American Revolution. It’s not yet clear why Victoria is having flashes into the past. The hows and whys of why she was involved in the American Revolution, with apparently no recollection or explanation for this in the contemporary time will also provide this comic series with some good millage, as they gradually expand upon the story.

This comic very much harkens to an Assassins Creed style, with action, a distinct time period, and a strong independent lead character.

Will I Continue Reading? I won’t rush to buy the next issue, but Assassins Creed fans may enjoy this!
