Indiegogo Campaign To Bring Minas Tirith To Life

In the early naughties the internet seemed like an unreal place. It was somehow remote from the outside world. Having permeated so many of our day to day lives, such an impression seems laughable and yet, for some, the online world retains that air of being removed.

What then could be more tangible than a current Indiegogo campaign to build the fictional city of Minas Tirith, from the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J. R. R Tolkien?

Minas Tirith is of course the seat of the King of Gondor in the west of Middle Earth. Jonathan Wilson wants to crowd fund building it into a functional city with a goal of £1,850,000,000 (Great British Pounds).

Whether you like Lord of the Rings or not, it is hard not to be charmed by the undertaking. In effect, one ‘unreal space’ is being used to bring another into the world of bricks and mortar.
