Established over five years ago, the World Superhero Registry was designed to showcasing, promoting and documenting the actions and deeds of the worlds Real Life Superheroes as well as maintaining a record on the growth and evolution of the culture.
We have grown up with superheroes, every one of us knows who Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman is, we are all aware of the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Justice League. We have marvelled at their abilities, dreamt of following in their footsteps, donned the cape and delved into our imaginations.

Unfortunately that is where the story has ended for many of us, in coloured inks and pages, on the TV screen or the movie screen, happy to sit and just watch as our heroes saved the day once more.

There are those among us however who never let go of that desire to do good and save the world and now among us, coming from all walks of life, men and women are emerging draped in costumes, protecting the innocent and standing up for justice, Real Life Superheroes are amongst us and the @rcade chats to Kevlex, the man behind the World Superhero Registry and hero, crime fighter and organiser of the Registry.

Taking some time out of his duties patrolling Phoenix and watching over it’s people, Kevlex chats to us about the Registry, the heroes and life as a crime fighter.

Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself and your involvement with the World Superhero Registry?

I was raised by unconventional parents. They believed in unlimited possibilities and that mindset led me to think that I could and should take responsibility for my fellow man. I have always been determined to improve the world and have a deep and abiding passion for the pursuit of justice and freedom. I founded the World Superhero registry to try and make the world a better place by encouraging this unusual variety of public service.

Why did you get involved in the world of crime fighting and prevention?

It deeply offends me when the unscrupulous prey upon the weak and defenceless. I feel that people should be encouraged to take responsibility for the state of the world around them and be empowered to take action. Everyday crime is not the most important issue in the world today, but it is when it affects you personally and it is something that the common man can and should address.

What is the Registry? Why was it setup?

The World Superhero Registry was started to let the public know about the existence of Real-Life Superheroes and to support and promote such activities. Before the World Superhero Registry came along, most people had never heard of such a thing. The registry documents the existence of legitimate Real-Life Superheroes, although we are far behind the growth of the Real-Life Superhero community due to a drastic shortage of time and resources. Over the entire time we have been in operation, we have received a total of $5.00 in donations.

Life

Superheroes and heroines have captivated the world for years, why do you think we are only seeing them emerge into the world now?

It is hard to say, but it may be a reaction to an increase in violent terrorist activity. When dramatic evil shows itself to the world, the world sometimes responds with dramatic good.

If someone was interested in becoming a hero, how should they go about doing it?

The registry urges caution, especially when undertaking crime-fighting activities. Take the time to properly train and equip yourself and to educate yourself. Going up against violent criminals with only good intentions will often result in tragedy. We also try to discourage Real-Life Superheroes from using lethal force, particularly in the form of projectile weapons. Even law enforcement makes mistakes and they are highly trained in its use. Accidental death or injury is unacceptable. There are many non-lethal options for self-defence, starting with martial arts training.

Is there any danger in doing this kind of thing?

Yes, particularly if one chooses a path of direct confrontation with evildoers.

Have the members of the Registry ever met up?

There have been several events where members of the Real-Life Superhero community have met, although the Registry has not yet sponsored one. We are slowly pursuing the goal of establishing a Real-Life Superhero Headquarters in Arizona, which will hold meetings and events for Real-Life Superheroes in good standing.

Black Arrow

Do you have a particular favourite super hero or is there a particular power that you wish you could have?

I have several, but Doc Savage is one of my all time favourites. He was a Batman-like character who was exceptional because of his intellect and training, not a mutation or superpower.

If I could have a superpower, I think Wolverine’s power of regeneration is what I would choose. The world is a dangerous place and the good guys are all too frequently laid to rest when they confront evildoers directly.

With every great super hero there comes a great villain, have you heard of any groups forming for super villains?

None that I take seriously! The true threats in this world seldom show that kind of creativity, they are more apt to be ruthless, self-centered bastards.
911 was not carried out by a death-ray wielding genius in a flashy costume, it was planned by cowardly, bitter old men and carried by deluded men with cheap utility knives.

What is the future for the Registry? Do you have plans for the website?

We recently had an online attack which resulted in the destruction of our forum and other damage to the website. We will eventually get that repaired. If we ever get the resources, we will hold meetings and classes to support the Real-Life superhero community as well as conducting our own surveillance of criminal organizations. We are paying off land that will be used as the site of the world’s first Real-Life Superhero headquarters. We intend to have facilities for training, building costumes and equipment and other support purposes.

Finally if you were trapped in an Arcade for eternity, what one game would you play to pass the time?

 Offhand, Tetris.

Please be patient however as the site is currently in repairs after the recent attacks.
