Anything you can do...

If you can name a fad then we can tell you that we were definitely hooked on it. Pokémon stickers, football player stickers, shoes that had lights in them, push pops – the whole deal! There are some fads that have always been around and every generation seems to add something new to them. These include the yoyo, hula hoops and jump ropes, come on who here reading this hasn’t used one if not all three of these in their life.

We taught ourselves how to walk the dog or roll the pendulum, we could cross our arms and skip and we could even use TWO hula hoops at the same time and we thought we were big shots that is until these guys burst our bubble…

This week we look at some of the folk on YouTube who’ve shattered our childhood delusions and show us how the pros really do it!

Jensen Kimmit 2010 World Yoyo Contest

Did you know that earliest surviving records of people playing Yoyo date back to 500 B.C. – there’s a random fact you can spout out over lunch or pints later on! The yoyo first came to the United States when James L. Haven received the first patent for it in 1866 but it didn’t become popular until 1929. Down through the years the yoyo’s popularity and risen and fallen but it’s definitely something that will be around for many more years.

Elena Lev – Hula Hoops

Elena is a 29yr old rhythmic gymnast, born in Russia but now living in Las Vegas. When she first started training Elena was coached by her mother and first breakthrough came when she joined Algeria, a Cirque du Soleil troupe. She crafted her art and incorporated the hula hoop to create an act unique to her style. Elena is now performing with cirque du Soleil’s Wintuk in New York.

Jump Rope – Double Dutch Contest Japan

We can do that…we just…we are far too busy running this website! Jump Rope contests are usually broken down into different categories, single or double Dutch and then speed, fusion and battles.

frherald – Sandcastles

Words cannot describe our jealousy! In all honesty we were happy if the castle came out of the bucket at all. There are some fantastic videos of people creating whole kingdoms of castles and villages on YouTube but we figure if we are going to get anywhere then it’s probably best to watch a tutorial and steal their ideas and then claim them as our own.

Anyone got a tonne of sand they are not using? And a shovel?
