Summer Sounds

Ok, let’s be honest we aren’t your typical outdoors loving people here at the @rcade, give us the dark and cold dredges of winter anytime, huddled up in blankets, drinking warm cocoa and pummelling our way through fight after fight and wave after wave in our favourite games. This summer we’ve decided to venture forth and experience the summer buzz that most people get this time of year. We’ve packed our inhalers, anti-hay fever meds, eye drops and enough bug killer to take down a Tyrannosaurus Rex. To help us in our transition into the outdoor world, we bring you some of the music that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and forget about your allergies as we bring you the perfect summer playlist, right through from the minute you wake up, to that road trip and a nice wind down on a warm summer evening with a glass of beer and good friends.

Hanson – MMMBop

Perfect for getting you up and full of energy in the morning, the Hansons stormed the record charts worldwide in 1997 with this single from their ‘Middle of Nowhere’ album and was number 1 in eleven countries, including Ireland.

Sky Ferreira – One

Only two years in the music industry, Sky is fast making a name for herself as a serious artist. Having collaborated with ‘The Virgins’, ‘The Shoes’ and Aeroplane to name a few, ‘One’ is her debut single.

Katy Perry ft Snoop Dog – California Girls

When she’s not busy kissing girls and Russell Brand, Katy Perry just likes to chill out like all the other California Girls. Making a name for herself last summer, Perry has gone from strength to strength in the last year, this song is perfect for that road trip or getting ready for a beach party.

Supermodel Twins – Footprints

Perfect for bopping your head and feet along to, we are waiting anxiously for the Supermodel Twins album and in the meantime you can check out our very special interview with the lads here.

Gorillaz – 19-2000

Speaking of road trips, Gorillaz are essential for any car journey that’s longer than you going to the shops for a litre of milk. ’19-2000 was the second single from the Gorillaz self-titled album which sold over seven million copies worldwide.

Eden – If I was a Pet Shop Boy

Every road trip needs a song you can sing along to and while we might not sound as good as Mark, ‘If I was a Pet Shop Boy’ is definitely perfect for a road trip sing song. The song comes from Eden’s album ‘Electric’ and nothing says summer like synthpop! Check out our chat with one half of the band here.

Robyn – Dancing on my Own

‘With Every Heartbeat’ and ‘Be Mine’ are probably Robyn’s best known tracks. ‘Dancing on my Own’ is perfect for beginning your wind down, taken from her latest album, Robyn plans on releasing three albums this year. Best of luck to her, we can’t wait to hear more!

Mumford and Sons, Laura Marling & Dharohar Project – To Darkness

To Darkness was released on the hit single ‘Little Lion Man’ by Mumford and Sons. The collaborative project with Laura Marling (20yr old Singer Song Writer) and Dharohar Project, reminds us of nothing but burnt orange skies, good food and good company.

Marina and the Diamonds – Starstrukk cover

Marina’s cover of 3OH!3’s “Starstrukk”, glass of wine or bottle of beer in hand, it’s the perfect time song to chill out with friends. Marina is still on tour at the moment; check out our review of her Dublin Show here.

Christopher Dallman – Ghosts

Ghosts is from Christopher Dallman’s second album ‘Never Was’. The song is perfect for just sitting there and doing absolutely nothing except listening to the night sky and of course the brilliant music of Christopher.
