It isn’t very often we here at the @rcade are taken aback by something we find online and as of late the internet has become kind of boring and stale. We had all but given up on ever finding something to bring us joy and happiness on the World Wide Web but that was until we found ‘Lesbians Who Look like Justin Bieber’ a website dedicated to… well it kind of says it all in the name. For those of you who don’t know who Justin Bieber is, let us fill you in: Justin is a 16 year old pop sensation who hails from Canada and woos the affections of millions of prepubescent teenage girls. He is so popular that the young star’s manager and the senior-VP of Island Records have both been arrested on issues of reckless endangerment with crowd control and hindering police work – wherever Bieber goes hordes of little girls trample their way to him oh and he did a song with that rapper, Ludacris.
So taken by the website that we’ve tracked down the creator and mastermind behind it, Dannielle, and she has kindly agreed to answer all our questions!
Who are you and what can you tell us about yourself?
Well, my name is Dannielle. I’m a filmmaker/blogger. I have another blog (everyoneisgay.com), and I freelance film/edit, mostly documentary style stuff for musicians and I’m moving to NYC in 6 days to start making music videos and stuff!
Where did you come up with the idea for the website Lesbians Who Look like Justin Bieber?
I’m in a band called Vintage Gramma and we did a Justin Bieber/Taylor Swift mash-up. Justin and Taylor both tweeted about us and we started getting a ton of views. This resulted in a ton of (not always awesome) comments. A few of which stated ‘THE GIRL WHO SINGS THE BIEBER PART REALLY LOOKS LIKE HIM LOL’ and I thought it was really funny b/c it was REALLY true. A few weeks passed and more than once I got comments like ‘have you heard of Justin Bieber, b/c you kind of look like him). This brought to light that, not only did I look like a teenage pop sensation, but a ton of other lesbians did too. I started coining these girls ‘Biebians’ and then I took it to the net!
How does the website work? Do folk just send in snapshots of Bieber lesbians?
That’s basically it. Generally, I like for people to be submitting themselves, but you know, I can only throw up a disclaimer and hope for the best. I have just under 2500 submissions right now, basically I go through from the earliest submitted and add a witty comment. I also delete the pictures of boiz, girls with middle parts, and children.
Do you think Justin has heard about the site? Do you think he is aware of how many lesbians actually look like him?
Apparently he has heard of it, he just hasn’t seen it. He says the ‘concept is funny.’ which makes me laugh.
Let’s talk more about Justin Bieber. What’s your favourite song from his album and do you think he’ll still be around in years to come?
My favourite song is called ‘That Should Be Me’
I don’t have his first album, but I think he’s doing pretty well for himself, and he’s like the future Chris Brown. CB started when he was super young and people just kept on loving him b/c he kept on working with amazing producers and dancing his own face off. So, as long as JB doesn’t get into any domestic disputes, he should be good to go.
Aside from pointing out the flawless similarities between the pint-sized pop star and his lesbian twins, what else do you do?
Hahah. I like the way you worded that.
I am a blogger/filmmaker. Right now I’m planning slash packing for my move to NYC. I used to do comedy in Chicago, for about 3 years and just moved a few months ago. So, I’ve been pretty busy since I graduated college, which has been nice.
Have you ever gotten hate-mail from a Bieber fan or an angry lesbian?
Yes, angry lesbian. I said something about Tegan & Sara looking like him (I mean, I say it all the time) and I got the following email from a girl named Kathryn M:
“Your tumblr is possibly the stupidest thing I have ever had the misfortune of stumbling across on the internet. In no way do Tegan and Sara look ANYTHING like Justin Bieber. He is a talentless moron, and definitely not good looking. Are you twelve, or just retarded? You’re going to get stabbed in the face by a Tegan and Sara fan one day, seriously. Idiots like you shouldn’t even have the privilege of knowing who Tegan and Sara are. Fuck off and die.”
And like five minutes later Tegan tweeted about how hilarious my site was… sooo… I win.
What’s the future for the lesbian’s who look like Justin Bieber website?
Haha. Well, recently I won the ‘OMFG INTERNET AWARD’ from MTVs LOGO network, which was awesome. I’m hoping that will lead to them calling and saying ‘oh hay do you want a TV show called ‘spot the Bieb.’
That would rule. Or like a book.
Finally if you were trapped in an Arcade for eternity, what game would you play to pass the time? (And spot the Justin Bieber lesbian look-a-like doesn’t count)
Ohmigosh.
I mean, if it was one of those full-scale arcades, with like mini-basketball and skee-ball, it would definitely be skee-ball, because I have a goal to one day master that game.
