1…2… Brand new Freddy is coming for you!
3…4… This remake better not be a bore!
5…6… This is getting hard to rhyme
7…8… Something that rhymes with eight
9…10… Let’s just kick off the preview…

And hopefully you are old enough to get the reference to the original Elm Street movie otherwise the @rcade is showing its age! The rumour mill has been a buzz for years that a remake was in the pipeline for Wes Craven’s 1984 cult classic horror and now in less than a week the master of nightmares Freddy Krueger will once again stalk our cinema screens but will we have nightmares for the right reasons?

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) is brought to us by Samuel Bayer, written by Wesley Strick and produced by Michael Bay. Bayer is known for his work in the music video industry, Strick brought us Doom and The Glass House and Michael Bay is known far and wide for his directing skills and producer roles on some of the most popular films ever including Bad Boys, Armageddon, both Transformers movies and he was even in cult 80’s TV programme Miami Vice – the man has done it all. In the hands of these three, we can hope that the rehash of the 80’s horror flick will be safe.

Freddy

The plot is almost identical to its original, beautifully awkward teenagers are stalked in their dreams by a nightmarish murder who goes by the name of Freddy, with his scarred flesh, raggedy jumper and deadly sharp razor claw-glove, the teenagers fall victim to his twisted nightmares one by one. Their only hope is to somehow stay awake long enough to try and figure out what this psychotic killer wants with them.

We are always very sceptical of remakes, after all no one wants a repeat of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’, we won’t get our hopes up but check out the trailer for yourself and make sure to check back for the review…
