We’ll Watch it… so you don’t have to!
In the first of many to come, the @rcade spares you the pain of having to watch some brutal movies. This week we are watching Carriers and after forcing ourselves to actually play the DVD we settle in for what we hope won’t be too much suffering…
Carriers
What’s it about?
A deadly virus which is also highly contagious has devastated the Earth’s population. The disease kills within a matter of days and is spread through contact with the infected, blood, saliva. Society as we know it has crumbled and the world is a very different place. Four young beautiful people, two of whom are brothers have so far managed to avoid infection and are journeying to a place they think will be the safe, a motel on the beach. Along the way they follow a set of rules to help them avoid infection but suddenly abandon these to help a stranded father and his infected daughter. The handsome group of young people soon fall prey to paranoia and the cramped conditions of their car only further their suspicions. Can they escape the virus or will they end up killing each other before the disease does.
What’s wrong with it?
Terrible acting, rehashed storyline, predictable plot and terrible character development. Carriers will remind you of a few films, from Zombieland to Outbreak but unfortunately it just doesn’t work out to be a good film. Eighty four minutes of your time will be consumed by trying to count how many films this one actually reminds you of and then when you are finished counting you will reminisce about how good those movies were and hopefully you won’t end up watching too much of this one.
Who is in it?
You will no doubt recognise Chris Pine from Star Trek (2009), his brooding and over the top performance will wreck your head from start to finish. Cast wise there is very little to the performances and only two actors in the entire cast actually add anything to this otherwise terrible film. Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly, Slap Her She’s French) and Christopher Meloni (Law and Order SVU, OZ) actually bring some depth to their characters – Perabo plays Bobby, the sassy girlfriend of Pine’s character Brian and Meloni is the stricken father of a dying girl. Unfortunately their performances alone aren’t enough to even make this film half decent.
What should I watch instead?
28 Days Later
Zombieland
Outbreak
Resident Evil
Is it really that bad?
Short answer yes!
