Can’t decide what to see this weekend at the movies? Don’t worry – the @rcade takes a look at some of the films currently playing in cinemas nationwide and will bring you in depth reviews, and if you change your mind about going out then we’ll always recommend a DVD that you can rent for a night in on the couch and some microwave popcorn…

Shutter Island

Martin Scorsese doesn’t disappoint with his latest flick, enough twists and scares to keep you on the edge of your seat; DiCaprio does a bang up job continuing on his success of great performances in the last few years.

When US Marshal, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio), is assigned to the case of a missing patient at the asylum on Shutter Island, he soon finds himself trapped in a world of secret horrors. The hospital refuse to cooperate with the investigation and as Daniels delves deeper into the case he begins to realise that not everything is as it seems on the island. A hurricane knocks out communication with the mainland and soon the marshal finds himself trapped on the island. Prisoners and patients begin to escape their cells and the madness continues to increase and soon it begins to overcome Daniels judgement as he begins to question everything he knows, his life and his own sanity.

If you liked Shutter Island, then the @rcade recommends: Silent Hill, Drag Me to Hell, Room 1408

Kick Ass

Ever dreamt about having super powers? Fancied flying over skyscrapers? Shooting lasers from your fingertips? Well aside from dunking yourself in radioactive waste or an alien deity granting you with awesome technology, you are pretty screwed unless you fancy taking the matters into your hands like the young Dave Lizewski. The most unpopular kid at high school, a comic book fanatic, he decides to take control of his life and become a crime fighting superhero, despite having no actual superhuman abilities, powers or cool and expensive gadgets. With the aid of father-daughter crime fighting team, Big Daddy and Hit Girl, Lizewski, now calling himself Kick-Ass take on the unruly mob and the unlikely hero takes on his first arch nemesis, Red Mist.

Super violent, super gore and super beatings, Kick Ass redefines the superhero flick. Based on Mark’ Millar’s amazing comic, Kick Ass will have you wanting to don a cape, and leap from tall buildings…all of which the @rcade cannot condone of course…now where did I put my leather ski mask…

If you like the sound of Kick Ass but aren’t bothered to go see then the @rcade suggests you check out: Hellboy, Sin City, X-Men Trilogy
