Pros and Cons of Fictional Schools

Any movie, TV Show, video game or anime that takes place in a school makes your own look like a pile of rubbish. It’s just how it works. Writers are going to make these academic paradises because they can. There is no room for a reality check in our fictional worlds! That being said, not all of our favourite schools are perfect…

Hogwarts – Harry Potter

“Welcome to Hogwarts. Now, in a few moments, you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. But before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. They are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Now, while you are here, your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you house points. Any rule breaking, and you will lose points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup”
Pro: That magical moment you receive your letter
Con: Attending the school the same time as the Golden Trio and wondering if you’ll ever get a decent N.E.W.T result.

Blackwell Academy – Life Is Strange

“Global Excellence in Arts and Science for over a hundred years and counting.”
Pro: Attending this ‘seniors only’ school must mean you have a gift in the arts or science – Bravo!
Con: You could get shot in the bathroom…or kidnapped by a teacher.

Ouran Academy – Ouran High School Host Club

Only those with excellent social standing and those from filthy rich families are lucky enough to spend their time here at the elite private school, Ouran Academy.
Pro: Spending all of your free time in Music Room 3
Con: Getting sick of all the damn rich people

Sunnydale High School – Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Welcome to Sunnydale High. There’s no running in the halls, no yelling, no gum chewing. Apart from that, there’s only one rule. If they move, kill them.
Pro: Using the apocalypse as an excuse to get out of doing homework
Con: Being on constant alert for vampires

Greendale Community College – Community

“Many of you are halfway through your first week here at Greendale and as your dean I thought I would share a few thoughts of wisdom and inspiration.
What is community college? Well, you’ve heard all kinds of things. You’ve heard it’s loser college for remedial teens, middle-age divorcees, and old people keeping their minds active as they circle the drain of eternity.
That’s what you heard. However, I wish you
luck!”
Pro: The chance to be a part of the world’s coolest study group
Con: The flag

Third Street Elementary School – Recess

“Never kid a kid who hasn’t had his recess.”
Pro: Having the best childhood ever
Con: Literally nothing

Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters – X-Men

Pro: Finally having a place where you are accepted for who you are.
Con: Being under attack every week on average.
