New Life For Leatherface?

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a franchise that has been languishing for the past few years. It hasn’t fallen into the straight to DVD hell that other franchises come through, but quality has taken a dip. Let alone how confusing it has been with so many sequels, prequels or reboots that choose to ignore other things.

The thing is, that right now the rights of the franchise have reverted to Kim Henkel, who co-wrote the original film and directed The Next Generation.  It’s an odd situation especially because last year Leatherface was released, and Lionsgate and Millenium Fils had the rights to make five more movies. But they lost those rights because they took too long to release Leatherface.

Things are looking up for Leatherface anyway. Several studios are trying to become the new home for the franchise. Among them Legendary Pictures, and apart from making more movies they plan on making a TV series.

But there’s also the possibility that this deal doesn’t go further, as nothing has really been signed yet. Time to see how ths develops and what it means for Leatheface.
