No not the Disney one. Turns out Sony is also making its own live-action adaption of Mulan, and they’ve found themselves a director. Alex Graves is best known for his work on on the immensely popular Game of Thrones, having directed 6 episodes of the series. Outside of that he’s also built up a strong resume including House of Cards and Homeland.
Mulan was introduced to the Western audience by the Disney animated classic, and is based upon a Chinese ballad of a warrior woman skilled in martial arts and swordplay who takes her ailing father’s place in Emperor’s army. This bodes well as Graves showcased his action-directing chops in the fantastic episode of Game of Thrones: The Mountain and the Viper.
The film will be produced through Sony Pictures International, will shoot in China and feature a Chinese cast. The script will be written by Jason Keller who also scripted Mirror, Mirror and Escape Plan. No word yet though on if Eddie Murphy will be returning.
