We’re in a really Irish mood here at The Arcade today so we thought we’d throw on a few tunes and kick back. And what better songs to listen to than those in our native tongue?

We’ve put together 5 of the best Irish language pop songs so you can get acquainted with our language on this most Irish of days.

‘Taibhsí nó Laochra’ – The Coronas

‘Taibhsí nó Laochra’, otherwise known as ‘Heroes or Ghosts’ is a classic song by The Coronas and sounds even more hauntingly beautiful as gaeilge.

‘Is Aoibhne’ – Fiach

Dubliner Fiach played ‘Is Aoibhne’ at The Zodiac Sessions at an open mic night in Dublin over Seachtain na Gaeilge. Originally written in English as ‘You Dear’, we’re loving the laid back crooning of this talented Irish musician.

‘Foirfe’ – Eddi Reader

Although Scottish herself, Reader appeared on the Irish language album ‘Ceol 10 Súil Siar’ with a version of the Fairground Attraction song ‘Perfect’. We have to say, we might even love this one more than the original! Which totally doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that it’s in Irish. Totally.

‘Grian Geal Lonrach’ – The Walls

Otherwise known as ‘To The Bright and Shining Sun’, The Walls’ catchy Irish language song will have you tapping along to the beat and making plans to pop it on your MP3.

‘Cabhraigí Léi’ – Kíla

This song may make you want to jump into your car and head on a road trip along the coast. With all your friends. And a few good beers. Have we just given you a fantastic idea on how to spend Paddy’s Day? I think we have! Brb smashing the replay button.
