Track of the Day: Teenage Bottlerocket – ‘Skate Or Die’

It’s been a pretty awful time for music as of late, with legendary performers and iconic names passing by the minute. 2015 was no better, though one of the names you might not have recognised – or even heard of – was Brandon Carlisle of Teenage Bottlerocket who sadly passed on November 7th 2015. I think it’s high time I include his band’s awesome music on the site and pay tribute to a talented drummer.

Teenage Bottlerocket play a brand of DIY, low-fi punk you don’t really hear any more. Everything about them looks to be done on a budget, the songs are short and snappy, and even the subjects of their songs are frequently ridiculous. ‘Skate Or Die’ sounds like it should have been in a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game that never was, and I love it for that having grown up in the Jackass era where Tony Hawk and Bam Margera were household names.

They’re a criminally underrated band that more people should listen to. If you like anything from the Tony Hawk’s soundtracks, if you like skate-punk such as NOFX, or if you just like good fast-paced pop-punk in the vein of the Ramones and some of The Misfit’s poppier tracks, you need to give this band a look. They’re incredibly talented guys, and the memory of Brandon Carlisle deserves it.
