Capcom executive producer Yoshinori Ono has confirmed discussions about bringing back the long-dormant Onimusha series as well as stating “fan favourites are going to come back”. Whether this means we’ll see an Under The Skin gritty reboot is anyone’s guess, but while in an interview with the Daily Star, Ono stated:
“I’ve spoken internally with people who made Onimusha with me originally and talked about maybe how interesting it would be to revisit that series. But fans should know that we’re not further down that road than the discussion phase.”
Personally, I find it hard to imagine Capcom will be pumping out entries in just any old beloved series they’ve produced. We’ve seen the fruits of these kind of moves with Bionic Commando‘s reboot failing to sell any significant numbers, though it has only been about ten years since the last Onimusha game, Dawn of Dreams, which didn’t exactly pick up any game of the year awards.
