Irish-Mexican director Kevin de la Isla O’Neill recently came to our attention when we heard about his recent film showing in Ominplex, Limerick. He also made time to speak to the film students at Limerick College of Further Education.

O’Neill has found success both in Ireland and abroad, and after a failed attempt to fund his latest independent film The Hit Producer on an English crowdfunding website, O’Neill managed to get crowd funded on the Irish website fundit.ie . O’Neill’s films star a mostly Irish-born cast. While those of us in Ireland have to wait for a DVD release to see the film, people in Mexico may not have to wait quite as long, as O’Neill successfully landed a deal with Cinemex a cineplex company based in Mexico, who are going to show it in 30 screening across Mexico City.

The Hit Producer is a feature-length, crime thriller with comedic undertones. We have the synopsis of the story below but if you want to learn more about the film, you should check out the film’s official website.

“The Hit Producer tells the story of Katelin Ballantine (Michelle Doherty), a struggling movie producer in search of an investor, who reluctantly follows the promise of money into Dublin’s drug underworld where she witnesses a botched murder attempt. Forced to finish the job, she is blackmailed into killing for Edmund Murren (Neill Fleming), a small time, ruthless drug supplier hell-bent on becoming top dog.”

To see more of O’Neill’s work check out his IMDB page for more info, we know we will definitely be keeping an eye on him in the future.
