In a blindside announcement at The Game Awards, Double Fine (Brutal Legend, Stacking, Massive Chalice) have announced that they’ll finally be producing a crowd-funded sequel to the much beloved action-platformer Psychonauts. The crowdfunding and investment platform Fig will be used to garner the necessary funds to develop the long-awaited sequel with a goal of $3.3 million.
Double Fine are no strangers to crowdfunding their games, as their recent releases Broken Age and Massive Chalice are in the top funded projects for video games on Kickstarter. Moving over to Fig is an interesting choice, as it now opens up the opportunity to invest into the project and make a possible profit if the game sells well. It’s also not a huge surprise seeing as Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine and all around video game swami, is on the advisory board for Fig.
