…but a kiss can be deadlier if you mean it!

Tis the season to wish you had better coworkers, that your boss didn’t scrimp on the buffet budget and that you hadn’t let Secret Santa shopping for Marge in accounts until the last minute… does she prefer staplers or paper clips?

Yes Christmas means Christmas parties and if you’re anything like me then you’re about to get real uncomfortable around your beloved colleagues because there’s nothing worse than going outside the office block and mingling! Fret not!

So you might be uncomfortable in social situations that doesn’t mean you have to look uncomfortable! With these outfits you’re going to make an entrance and an exit as the part will get a little less classy when you leave and not just because Marge has had one sherry too many!

Inspired by a power couple from my childhood, we should all take fashion notes from Selena Kyle and Bruce Wayne from Batman Returns!

Catwoman

If you haven’t got a pretty black dress in the closet somewhere, it’s time to invest in one! This entire look is centred around that. Gold is typically paired with black but it’s possible to pull off a killer look with silver as well giving a much colder tone to your outfit but allowing each piece to stand on it’s own and as an ensemble.

Catwoman SS

As I said a pretty black dress is essential and I’ve gone for a skater style with a deep v-neck line for this look. I’ve matched that with a princess necklace with a flower/snowflake style pendant. If you’re going to wear a neck piece but you’re not a fan of this style just make sure to avoid a round necklace, you’ll need something that compliments the dresses shape. Anything that hangs long and even deeps under the v-neck line all work perfectly to accentuate your own figure and neck.

For additional accessories I’ve gone for a silver clutch purse and a silver cuffed bracelet. Your shoes should be also be in a silver style, I’ve gone for stiletto here – it is a party after all. Now if the idea of wearing these all night sounds like torture then ask a friend to carry a pair of more comfortable flats in their bag or bring one of your own and check it at the venue – your feet will owe you one.

Now it is pretty cold this time of year so for some protection against that as a nod to Catwoman’s dangerous side I’ve couple the look with a leather jacket. If the frosty vibe from your outfit doesn’t tell people you mean business then this is sure to get the message across whether it’s on arrival or when you’re out in the smoking area because Marge likes a quick drunken smoke! It’s sleek and wraps the whole outfit up perfectly.

Batman

You do not want to wear a tuxedo to your work do! Let’s just get that out there right now unless it says in the e-mail that one is required! Likewise you won’t have to drag out your best suit either! Now chances are you have most of these things already in your closet either as part of other outfits or even as work pieces.

I’d like to add that if you have worn the item to work that can be spotted especially by shrewder eyes so if you’ve worn it to the office don’t wear it to the official office party if it can be helped.

Batman

This is a very toned down outfit, there’s next to no colour in this and when you think about Christmas one of the first thing that comes to mind is colour. Well there’s no written rule that you have to splash the red, green and gold on!

I’ve gone for a simple white shirt and black trousers combo. I picked a short heeled boot which is somewhat practical while adding to the overall piece.

Accessories are the key to adding a bit of life to this outfit. I’ve gone with a heavy silver and gold watch, you can track how much longer you have to spend at the party while it adds just a hint of colour to the whole look. Instead of a tie I’ve chosen a sequined bow tie, it’s my nod to the dress worn by Selina when her and Bruce realise they’ve been fighting each other on rooftops over the last few nights.

To finish this off I’ve chosen a really well priced, single breasted jacket. It may not be the best at protecting from the cold when you’re trying to signal your chauffeur to pick you up (okay, it’s a taxi) but it does carry the whole outfit together.
