Last month the so-called “Pepsi phone”  was leaked. PepsiCo have since come out saying that they are working with a licensing partner to create a line of mobile phones for the Chinese market. The first product in this line has arrived.

The Pepsi P1 smartphone is now available through the Chinese crowdfunding site JD Finance.

There are two versions that support different 4G networks in China and has Android  Lollipop operating system.

The phone has a 5.5 inch 1080p display with a  13 MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera. It is very sleek with a fingerprint sensor on the back. It’s available in blue, gold and silver. It has dual SIM support, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

It really is a pretty solid phone and is selling for around $79 or $110 depending on the package that you are looking for but at the moment while it has been on the crowdfunding site there max number of orders has been reached. However the phone will be available for $204 until the funding ends.

To be clear, the soda company isn’t necessarily making its own smartphone, its licensing the Pepsi brand to Chinese company to Shenzhen Scooby Communication Equipment Co, which will manufacture the phone according to the website.

Well personally speaking it is a pity that this phone is only available in China. Fingers crossed it will expand further out.
