Although The Force Awakens has yet to be released, filming is already underway for Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars: Episode VIII. A press dispatch from Latino-Review has revealed that two major female characters are being cast. Female representation has been a big deal with relation to the Star Wars franchise, considering the fairly dismal track record of the original trilogy, so here’s hoping the upcoming instalments will do better.

Names mentioned for the possible characters include Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl). Considering the films are largely focused around the Skywalker family, it’s possible the characters may be the children of Han and Leia. Or better yet, a Sith assassin in the vein of Asajj Ventress. The possibilities are endless but, as with The Force Awakens, details are being kept very guarded.
