Shadowrun Returns Developer Launches New Kickstarter About Giant Robots

Harebrained Schemes, the developer of other Kickstarter-backed games such as Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun: Hong Kong, launched their latest crowdfunding project for a new turn-based tactics game based on the table-top wargaming BattleTech series (think along the lines of Warhammer).

The developer has already funded the game’s basic goals of player-versus-AI skirmishes and expanded mission objectives and environments, and is asking that those interested back the game to further its goals and help fund more features promised such as a single-player campaign and PVP multiplayer.

It’s certainly interesting to see a developer back the basic development goals. It rings out a message similar to Freddy Wong‘s Video Game Highschool Season Two Kickstarter campaign where the message was simply “Hey we’re making this, want to help make it better?”. That sort of crowdfunding gives potential backers the knowledge that, regardless of stretch goals or otherwise, a product will be delivered but the promises are improvements instead of the product itself.

The developer has a proven track record of three other successful Kickstarters with two being video games and BattleTech‘s current funding sits just under $900,000. If you’re curious about Harebrained Schemes’ other titles, we suggest you go try out their first game Shadowrun Returns as it’s a pretty decent turn-based tactical RPG with an authentic cyberpunk story to boot. It’s available on Steam for Windows/Mac/Linux as well as iOS and Android.

You can back BattleTech here! It is expected to ship in May 2017.
