The DC/Warner Bros movie slate is expanding once again, this time with a slightly more obscure addition. The Tracking Board have reported that a Blue Beetle/Booster Gold film is officially in development at Warner Bros with Greg Berlanti, the mind behind Arrow and The Flash for The CW, in heavy involvement. Sarah Schechter and Julia Spiro are also involved in an executive producer and studio representative capacity, respectively.

The film will mark a slightly different tact for the parties as it’s been described as a buddy cop story with an emphasis on comedy. This is a stark contrast to everything already seen from the DC cinematic universe, with Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman being very dark and gritty.

Booster Gold was created by Dan Jurgens in 1986. From the 25th century, Booster’s real name is Michael Carter who, after he was caught gambling on his own games in American Football and expelled, steals a bunch of hero tech and a time machine to travel back to the 20t century.

Blue Beetle was created by Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski in 1939 and was sold to DC in 1986. The most recent and well-known incarnation is Jaime Reyes, who took up the mantle during an ‘Infinite Crisis’ (a DC crossover event) storyline in 2006. Reyes accidentally ended up with the Blue Beetle suit, which grants enhanced strength, flight and a host of other skills, after the scarab that hols it ended up on Earth near his home. Booster Gold recruits him in his first storyline and the two have been a regular duo ever since.
