My favourite show at the moment is Steven Universe andeven though it has been on a break for a little while, it is truly a magical show. No show has brought me to tears so often. If you have not watched it, I implore you to watch a couple of episodes at least. I watched the pilot when it first came out and a loooong while later it sprang to mind and boom! all of a sudden I was cosplaying Garnet. This show has so many relatable characters; either you are one or you know someone who reminds you of one and that is pretty neat.

I can not gush about this show enough as it is beautiful to watch. As someone who lives in black clothing pretty much 80% of the time, all the colourful outfits call to me. So for this particular Style Saturday I wanted to dedicate it to my favourite characters that I have seen throughout the show. Spoiler alert for those who haven’t watched the whole show!

Garnet

Garnet is just so amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever fan girled over a character so much. Everything about Garnet shouts strength, from her height, to her afro-tastic hair. She isn’t just a badass, she is a conversation. All aspects of Garnet make her who she is; powerful, logical, independent, caring, kind and also fragile. So I chose an outfit that represented everything that makes Garnet whole.

As a woman with big thighs myself, as soon as I saw her design all I could think of was a casual Garnet cosplay. Something I could show my love for square mom. I started off with dark denim high waisted jeans and, if the cut is right, they pull in quite nicely for that hourglass effect which Garnet definitely has. Then I went for a crop top as they are cute as hell. The combination of the high waist and the crop top is quite flattering.

I also wanted to give Garnet a pretty cool jacket because she seems like the type who would have a stash of leather jackets in her wardrobe. Jackets with badges, chains, spikes and stars; you name it. I wanted to stick to her colour scheme as much as possible for her outfit to give it that gem-like feel, and her shoes had to be the type you can kick ass and take names in but also strut around in. So I went for something clean with a chunky heel, which gives stability in fights for earth (they’re important you know!).

As autumn is upon us, I threw in some cut out gloves; not practical for keeping warm but she can handle the cold. A pop of yellow for the star on her gauntlets and last but not least the sunglasses. I went for the most reflective ones I could find but went for a different shape to finish off the look.

Jacket €40 | Top €7.42 | Jeans €31 | Boots €23 | Gloves €25 | Sunglasses €9.82 | Watch €22

Total: €158.24

Steven

Steven is the cutest little gem; imagine a box of puppies and there you go. He loves his family and friends with everything he is and, in my book, that makes him pretty spectacular. When it comes to outfits, Steven is a no-fuss type of guy, meaning he has multiples of the same outfit which consists of a red tee with a star, jeans and flip flops. He oozes positivity but, when he means business, nothing will hold him back.

He is a little cutie pie but I wanted an outfit that would hopefully bring through everything that he is and everything that he may become. I can see touches of Greg Universe in Steven so something relaxed and laid back, but with moms like Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst, it would be a somewhat less laid back look. The colour scheme would pretty much be the same. I started off with some flexible and comfortable shoes; Converse and Vans. Both fit like a glove after a few wears and I can’t possibly imagine being that active in flip flops.

I tried to get a colour that matched his shirt as much as possible and eventually I chose a casual short sleeved shirt with a collar. I wanted a shirt with a little pocket so a star patch could be put onto it. For the jeans, I went for a regular, slightly tapered look for functionality and those type of jeans go better with collared shirts but don’t detract from the casual feel. I added a nice casual jacket into the mix, as a good one can pull together any outfit no matter how informal.

Jacket €31 | Shirt €34 | Jeans €31 | Shoes €28 | Shoes €32 | Belt €11

Total: €135 with Converse | €139 with Vans
