Starring Will Smith along with stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson, Paul Reiser and Arliss Howard, Concussion is a film based on the events following the discovery of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE.

Smith plays Dr. Bennet Omalu, a Nigerian-born forensic neuropathologist who discovered the effects of repetitive head trauma on American football or National Football League (NFL) players. The film charts the discovery of the condition and the resultant fallout.

Baldwin seems to be playing a role similar to that of the intelligence officer seen in The Good Shepherd (2006). Still, from the trailer it is clear that the film is to combine a number of genres including biopic, sports film and thriller.

Concussion will be in cinemas December 25.

What do you make of the premise? Do you enjoy any of these movie genres? What are your concerns or interests in seeing them combined? Tell us in the comments!
