So this is my first time doing Music Monday and I am genuinely very excited to share some of my favorite understated songs from over the years. So let’s jump right in and start this off!

Eagle-Eye Cherry – Save Tonight (1997)
Cherry is from Stockholm, Sweden. His father Don Cherry was a jazz artist. Cherry originally started out acting but when his father died he decided to write music. Fromt this his most famous album Desireless was born. The whole album was pretty much written and recorded before it even entered the studio and it went on to sell 4 million copies. Save tonight is by far his most well-known and loved song. This song has always been a long time favourite of mine although to be honest I don’t quite know why. I love the rhythm of the song as well as the raw unique sense it has overall.

Ellie Goulding – Tessellate (2014)
So most of us all know who Ellie Goulding is but what you might not know is most of Ellie Goulding’s newest album Halcyon Days was written on the beach in Dingle (Co. Kerry).  This whole album is definitely worth listening to. It has all types of tracks from mellow chill out melodies to pumping techno pop. She also has a very unique voice and a very intoxicating tone in which she uses that voice. However one of my favourite tracks from this album is the cover of Alt-J’s Tessellate. This version is incredibly bare and yet very enticing. It really shows off the power that she has to create undefined tones with her voice that we all know and love.

Paolo Nutini – Iron Sky (2014)
Paolo Nutini is an Italian/Scottish singer from Paisley, Scotland. His father owned a fish and chip shop and wanted Paolo to take over but obviously that did not go to plan. This song is incredible and really represents the repression Ireland is currently battling against with its Government. This isn’t the intent in the song it’s more of an overall but it really does suit the situation. Half way through the song there is also the very famous speech given by Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator. The album Caustic Love is overall a great listen and with a voice like that it is incredibly hard not to enjoy it.

Aaliyah – If Your Girl Only Knew (1996)
Shockingly a lot of people have never heard of Aaliyah these days or they know her as that singer who died in a plane crash. The reason that this is so shocking is she is the reason for the current Urban/Pop genres being spun out these days. For instance it has been said that Destiny’s Child were given a shot due to the success of Aaliyah and the “Unusual style of music”. Most people know her more famous songs such as Try Again or More Than A Woman.  However this song has a nice Urban feel to it and is the ultimate chillout song. Shame the lyrics aren’t so chill. There are plenty of other tracks from Aaliyah to post up about but for me this is one worth special notice.

Bryan Adams – (Everything I Do) I Do It For You (1991)
So we all know who Bryan Adams is whether we love or hate him. He has many great songs in my opinion. For those who don’t know who Bryan Adams is he is a famous Canadian singer and he has had many successful songs such as Summer Of 69, Run To You, Have You Ever Really loved a Woman and many many more. The above song was a huge song for him and made multiple appearances on wedding tapes around the world. The song is written with a lot of passion and love; you can hear all the emotion in this song through his voice. This gives it that something special that most songs lack these days.

Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (1994)
Ok so last but no means least we have the heavenly Jeff Buckley; this song to me is the most heartfelt song you can ever listen to. Everytime I listen to it the hair on my arms stand up; it is a very moving song. It is also very poetically written for those who like literature or for anyone. The song is about a couple who are having an intimate time and then no longer connecting that way. If you are ever having a dreary day then I would advise you to give this a skip as it will not help. With that I shall bid you all farewell and hope you enjoy this music or it gave you something to think about!
