A few Music Mondays ago (first one of this year in fact), I featured a music act I had discovered only recently: BriaAndChrissy. Having become aware of their YouTube channels only weeks before, I was intrigued and wanted to learn more… So I caught up with them over the week end.

What are our major musical influences?

Chrissy and I come from very different musical tastes. Chrissy grew up on Enya and Celtic Women where I grew up on Boy Bands and Musicals. With such different styles of music we somehow were able to come together to create our album, “Face Your Fears.” We both are extremely passionate people and when the music started flowing so did our collaboration. We wanted our album to be one of the first electric pop albums that incorporated only female pronouns towards each other.

What have been the challenged of producing an album independently?

We created our youtube channel an originally showcased funny satire songs, but have since progressed into a more heavy focus on skits, so once we released an album we were faced with “I didn’t know they sang.” Other complications included marketing. Marketing an album with little marketing knowledge is difficult, we wished at times we had the backing of a major label to push and advertise in the level we want our album to be heard, but maybe someday.

What was it that got you into vlogging/youtubing?

We started our channel originally as a mean to get Bria’s singing and my acting out into the world, since then we have focused on other issues such as LGBT and anti bullying topics. We are daily vloggers (we film our life 5 days a week) we started vlogging exactly a year ago, it’s been really amazing to watch our journey as we traveled across country to start a new life in California. One of the main factors that went into us deciding to become daily vloggers is that Bria has memory problems, to her it’s therapeutic and rewarding to be able to watch back our lives.

I first became aware of you guys on The Point with Ana Kasperian. How have you found new media taken to you?

We feel new media has not taken us seriously in the past, we find that with every week that goes by the more they are inquiring. We go to social media events and get bombarded by questions from new media trying to get a hold of this ever growing market, to us this is a good sign.

You enjoy an intimate relationship with your fans. Does this inform your work?

We are very glad that this shows through our work, the fact that people can see who we are and our intentions through our videos makes us very proud, we work hard to do this. We want to share compassion and strength with all those who watch us, we want them to beleive in themselves.  This generation is very lucky to have a source like YouTube, and question, concern, or thought will be answered by someone. I wish when I was questioning my sexuality at 13 I had someone telling me I was completely normal.  We work hard to be the best people we can for our viewers, so yes they shape us as we hope we shape them.

You guys are hoping to go on tour, how is that going?

Funny you should ask! We were approached with a 20 day tour 2 days ago across the US, we are still nailing down details and hoping this comes to fruition, stay tuned for more information on that.

Where can we find the album?
