Akira-Project-Official-Poster

“The Akira Project is a crowd-sourced, non-profit project meant to create a live action fan trailer of AKIRA, the renowned manga-turned-anime film from the late 1980′s; a stunning example of both mediums as art forms. While Hollywood is trying, for the fourth time, to complete a live-action adaptation of Akira, we, as fans, felt like we ought to take a shot at making our own adaptation. A chance to stick as close to the source material as possible. A chance to do Akira justice.”

The project kicked off in 2012 with an Indiegogo campaign used to not only raise much needed funds but to also highlight the project and raise awareness of their efforts and on top of donations the team also found many people interested in offering their time and talents. The footage for the trailer was shot over a 3 day period from November 2nd to 5th that same year. Since then the crew have been working on perfecting the visuals and soundtrack and despite some hurdles and setbacks the trailer is still on schedule for release this year.

As promised the team have begun releasing teasers, artwork and quick shots from the trailer including these:
