Martin Billany or Little Kuriboh as he is known in the world of Anime has become one of the Internet’s biggest legends. His wit and humour have provided Anime fans with a show like no other, ‘Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series’, a parody of the smash hit animated programme Yu-Gi-Oh.
If you have never heard of either the main series or the spoof series you’ve obviously been living under a rock so let us get you up to speed!
Yu-Gi-Oh is the story of a young boy called Yu-Gi who plays a card game called Duel Monsters. For some reason or another, this boy possesses an Egyptian talisman that grants him tremendous power and a wealth of knowledge over the card game and has allowed him to become one of the world’s greatest players ever. The series revolves around his adventures with his friends taking down bad guys who for whatever reason decide to take over the world using the card game as a premise to their scheme!
This is not the parody series but what the actual show is about, like most Anime that finds its way onto daytime kids’ television it is horribly edited down and recut so it can be deemed suitable for younger less mature audiences – with no concerns for how this might affect plot, atmosphere or theme!
The Abridged Series is cut together and voiced by Martin Billany as a comedy, hilarious voices and a script that would make a nun blush, the series has gone on to become one of the most watched and loved web shows on YouTube. However with fame and popularity came some serious issues and Martin hit with claims of copyright infringement and his account on YouTube has been suspended numerous times!
Enough of us blabbering on though! In January we were lucky enough to attend AkumaKon and once there we had the chance to sit down with Little Kuriboh to discuss his work on the series as well as about his own life and where he’d like to take the series!
