Marvel Announce New ‘Weapon-X’ Series

After Marvel’s announcement yesterday of the new Iceman series to be released early next year, Weapon-X has been announced as the second ongoing series as part of ResurreXion.

Weapon-X-cited!

As the next X-Men arc following the current Death of X and Inhumans VS X-Men due to end this year, Weapon-X is rumoured to feature some great characters; Wolverine, Deadpool, Sabretooth, X-23 (female Wolverine Laura Kinney) and Wildchild all appear on the new cover! How this might happen is still unknown. For those unaware, Weapon-X is a secret military organisation that has featured in various Marvel storylines with many well-known characters linked to it’s past, such as the creation of Deadpool and even Wolverine!

Weapon-X also appeared as a character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) – played by Ryan Reynolds of all people – but that storyline kind of took some original comic content and mashed into a bit of a mess so don’t take that film as comic gospel (please!)

Fun fact: Ryan Reynolds went on to play Deadpool in last years R-rated feature, the character which Weapon-X was based on!

Marvel-ous ideas?

With the recent demise of some major X-Men heroes in current comic lore (no spoilers) could this move by Marvel see a merge between the Inhumans and X-Men in a completely new mutant revamp? Rumours have it that Marvel might be trying to create a new league of mutants whose rights are not owned by a big corporate studio… Marvel still haven’t released much info about Resurrxion either way, probably because the current series has yet to come to an end!

No creative team has been announced in relation to either series either so I guess we’ll just have to see what Marvel has in store!
