Ever had one of those days where you wish the world would just disappear for a few hours and leave you alone? Well we haven’t the @rcade is one of those sickly happy machines that just keeps on going. We did get to thinking about the kind of music we listen that can make us feel less than chirpy so we decided to put together a very special jukebox. Amazing songs that always make you feel like the world is a terrible place. No offence to those performing these songs it’s just a simple case that these pieces are so depressing, beautiful but soul crushingly depressing.

Susan Boyle – Wild Horses

Susan Boyle shot to international fame last year after she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. Everyone expected the woman who was dressed like an old aunt we all have to sound as awful as she dressed but when she belt out her version of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ the world stood up and took notice and fell in love with the little Scottish lady. This song coupled with Susan’s dramatic story is enough to have anyone in tears, except us because we are far too manly.

Buckley – Hallelujah

We have nothing to say about this song other than we first heard it during the Shrek movie… hey! We never claimed to be the best with music!

Evanescence – My Immortal

Recommended to us by Rob Gallagher (who apparently has a playlist of ‘Depressing’ music) My Immortal is the 3rd single from American rock band Evanescence’s debut album ‘Fallen’. The single has gone gold and has sold over 500,000 copies worldwide. Many believe the song was written by Amy Lee, the leader singer of the band but this song and like many of their other hits were written for them, this one by Ben Moody, their former lead guitarist who quit the band in 2003.

All Saints – Never Ever

Who else remembers these ladies? The band first began in 1993 and lasted eight years until their split in 2001. The band was made up of Shaznay Lewis, Melanie Blatt and sisters Nicole and Natalie Appleton (Nicole married Liam Gallagher two years ago, Liam Gallagher from Oasis, remember him?) This single was their first ever number 1 and it remained at number 1 in Australia for seven weeks and it won the girls two BRIT awards and sold over a million copies in the UK alone.
