Everyone loves a good laugh, someone getting hurt, a good pun (everyone loves puns), satirical comics directed at the soul crushing reality of how bleak the economy and impersonating. We, the humble Irish are known for amazing sense of humour, our charm, wit and of course our serious dependence on alcohol as a nation. So what do you get when you mash a good pint with good comedy? A GREAT COMEDY NIGHT!

‘A Bear, a Bull and a Chicken walk into a Bar…’ a new comedy night organised and hosted by Joe Kearney. The night takes place every Monday in one of Dublin’s most well known and loved bars, Pantibar, so after hearing nothing but good things from some of our @rcade friends we grab Joe tie him to a chair and have an interview with him about the night in question…

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m 28; I like to eat veggies and nuts. Recycling is important and so is having a good laugh at yourself and at the important stuff. As a thespian/actor type I have been in a few plays, done some extra work (OH FOR SHAME) and currently I’m writing and of course running Karnage! at Pantibar’s ‘A Bear, A Bull and A Chicken walk into a Bar’ comedy Night….

Where did the idea for this new comedy night come from?

I’m in another comedy group and while trying to book a gig on the gay scene with Shane, the lubberly manger in Pantibar, he man handled me into running a comedy night to see if it would work in Pantis downstairs! Who knew her undercarriage would be so spacious and that we could squeeze so many gay bots in.

What kind of performances can we expect from the night?
We do a lot of varied stuff from traditional stand up to sketch groups to improv troupes and we will be having music too with the acoustic tones of Donna McCaul on Oct 4th to sooth the savages heaps.  Is it an open mic night or do you have contact organisers if you are interested in performing? Contact me if you want to go on, should we get more developed/established I’ll open up the mic once a month. Don’t be afraid to call or email me, I’m lovely and have a nice smile; I tend to wash on Wednesdays so this is Always a great day to meet me.

Where is a ‘’ A Bear, a Bull and a Chicken walk into a bar…’ on?

It’s on in Pantibar 8-9  Capel St and its free in, yes free, that’s right not a cent nor a penny charged

Is it a gay night or open to anyone? How much is it in?

It’s also open to all and sundry, rich poor gay straight and especially to those with a drink problem and or a taste for humour. We tempt the viewer to chortle and challenge you not to enjoy your good self.

Do you have any personal favourite comics?

Gerry McBride, Willie White, Culchie Nora, Aidan Killian, Niamh Marron, Gearoid Farrelly, Enda Muldoon, Neil Hickey, Sonya Kelly, Shinoxy, Glen Co Co, Laughalot, Karnage, Craic Pack, erm so no, not an individual favourite, I have got to meet and see so many and they are of a very high standard, qualities I like most in comics is reliability, supportive and of course funniness eh!

What is the best thing about stand up comedy and the worst?

The best thing is finding out how to tell a story with humour and conviction and tuning into your audience, when you and the room are on the same team its awesome like the feeling you get on your birthday when your mates all treat you like you are important or that they ;like you. The worst is when you bomb, it’s similar to being dumped or rejected by a hot guy but worse as it’s so public and in front of strangers and friends mixed together. You get ass sweat!

Got any good jokes?

How do you get a hot guy to sleep with you?Open a comedy night on the gay scene.Actually ‘A bear a bull and a chicken’ has not led me to any pu nanny or man nanny, sadly!

Finally if you were trapped in an Arcade for eternity, what one game would you play to pass the time?

One game? Only one? For eternity… well not Mario Kart as I devoted my teens to it… so probably Zelda on the GameBoy but with an added feature of never ending levels and Zelda’s graphics would be heightened to porno hottie status

One of our personal favourites here at the @rcade is Dylan Moran…

If you fancy heading to ‘A Bear, a Bull and a Chicken…’ the @rcade will be heading along next Monday October 4th so you know you want to go because it’s where all the cool kids are going!
