Red Bull Basement is a global initiative that invites tech innovators and student entrepreneurs, to come up with creative ideas to drive future change. Earlier this year, more than 3,800 entrants from universities across the world had access to resources such as mentors, workshops, networking events and more, culminating with the Red Bull Basement 2020 Global Workshop.

Entrants were narrowed down to the top five ideas, where the best idea from each of the thirty-eight participating countries, were chosen to take part at the Red Bull Basement Final on December 13th 2020.

DerMes Energy

Representing Ireland will be UCD graduates, Tadgh Crowley & Ben Ralph and their idea of DerMes Energy.

DemRes is a sustainable energy solution based on the problem that while technologies such as wind and solar are the key facilitators of the clean energy transition, they suffer with intermittency and a lack of grid scale storage. DemRes aims to make a positive impact towards global climate action by enabling consumers to intelligently schedule their electricity demand over the course of the day via an app, thus reducing electricity consumption and cost and in turn, carbon footprint.

At the moment, the pair are prototyping the app on a platform and are in touch with UX designers. We would like to wish the pair the best of look in today’s final. For more information on DerMes or any of the entrants, head over to the Red Bull Basement website.
